Prologue:
Nefertiti’s Blessing


Since the creation of all things mortal and godly, both planes of existence had been able to co-exist together and function in harmony. However as the passage of time turned slowly, and the grinded wheels of age turned, the mortals began to separate themselves from the powers of the godly beings. Few gods were angered by this injustice at the beginning, and when this situation continued it was found that the gods judged the humans unable to cooperate with themselves.  

Humans were thus deemed unworthy, vile, and malicious creatures, whose greed and vanity only helped them separate themselves farther from the gods. As the rules decreed however, the gods and goddesses were not allowed to harm human kind. In fear of the impurity to spread into their own realm they decreed that god and human kind were to live on two separate planes of existence, unlike earlier times.

Many gods were displeased and enraged with this new decree, none more however than the goddess, Nefertiti, who controls all the things nightly and mysterious. She was outraged by the new rule. Secretly she had been gazing upon the mortal realm many times as she traveled across the sky, her fitted and tattered dress cloaking behind her, casting the shadow of the night on the sky. During one of these travels, she stopped suddenly, and beheld a woman who was giving birth to a child. The child was to be born under the star of the nightly goddess, and she immediately grew fond of the mortal, always taking care after it.

After her nightly round, she returned to her own realm that lay parallel to the realm of the sun god. Upon entering she turned around, finding an intruder standing at the entrance. He disobeyed the rules of privacy as he entered without permission or introductions.

“So, my dear goddess, what accomplishment you have today while covering the skies with your silken touch and adorning it with silver dropped stars?” A small smirk appeared on his face.

Nefertiti turned around to stare at him and behind her, two shadows appeared. One growled softly, a warning sign to leave, while the other merely stared with its golden eyes, ready to attack. “Leave this sacred place. I do not wish it to be contaminated by your kind, Capto, god of jealousy...” she told him and without another word she walked into her chambers. Throwing aside the velvet drapes of her room the goddess entered her room, and stopped once again when the drapes didn't fall back to their original place.

“Dear me, goddess, I do believe that ...” Before Capto could finish the dear goddess had quickly turned around. Her long silken hair flowed behind her softly as she pointed a crescent moon tipped scepter to his neck. Its edges were brushing the skin of the god who let out a sudden exhale of shock.

“I warned you once; do not believe you have full right only because you are of higher rank. Leave immediately” she glared coldly, wanting the visitor to leave.

Capto’s smirk vanished quickly. There now stood a face of anger and rage as he vanished suddenly, leaving behind no traces of his existence.

Satisfied that her unwanted visitor was gone, Nefertiti extended her hand. She twirled it into the air as dust arose from the floor and took the shape of a mirror. When she glanced into it, instead of her own reflection, she beheld the mortal newborn that she had seen but a few moments ago.

She closed her eyes and sighed, “The law of the gods prohibits that mortal and god shall mingle together in the same realm...” The mirror shattered into glass shards that drifted slowly onto the ground, shining brightly before dimming. “The law of the gods is what binds me... However, there is no law against blessings. May that mortal child, born under my star, be blessed under my power. For I, Nefertiti, goddess of Night, give him my loving blessing.”

In the mortal world, the new born had slowly begun to drift off into sleep, finding the shine of a star in the sky to lull him to sleep.
